Street Sweeping Fines on a Holiday?

By an edhat reader

How can the City of Santa Barbara hit a whole block with $50 dollar citations on vehicles for street sweeping when there isn’t a street sweeping vehicle in sight? Especially when it’s a holiday, Veterans Day.

Update by Anthony Wagner, Public Engagement Manager, Santa Barbara Police Department

Folks:

It appear you all are right and I was mistaken in saying there was street sweeping on Veteran’s Day. While City workers did work that day, there was no street sweeping.

Thank you to Edhat handle “Always Running” for including the hyperlink that shows no street sweeping on Wednesday, Veteran’s Day.

TO EVERYONE THAT GOT A CITATION: We made a mistake and are sorry for causing frustration. Our parking police technicians have canceled the citation for all those that got a street sweeping specific citation. In the event that you already paid your now canceled Wednesday street sweeping citation online, we will send a refund. In the event that we did not catch something (we believe we got them all) and you do end up receiving notice of a citation in the mail, just call us at 805-897-2360 and we’ll fix it together.

THIS ONLY APPLIES TO STREET SWEEPING CITATIONS ISSUED ON VETERAN’s DAY

Thanks folks, we’re sorry for the mistake.

  2. Does SBPDPIO stand for Santa Barbar Police Department Public Information Officer? Or this this is ruse? Your claim appears false on its face. If you are using that tag to imply some sort of official status it is disreputable at best.

  3. To Anthony Wagner: OK to confess to making an error, we are all human. But what about the arrogance of your original post that the error was on the part of those who pointed out your error? This is arrogant. You need to actually listen to the public when they point out something, even if that is critical of your department.

  5. Life, because they already get 10 paid holidays, including Cesar Chavez Day and Martin Luther King Day. Are you okay with the costs of another paid holiday where no work gets done? Do you think Veterans would rather have the government spend money on good health care and housing, or be honored with a vacation day for government employees?
