By an edhat reader

It appears Sheriff Bill Brown has a formidable competitor this year in Lt. Juan Camarena.

Who are you all voting for?

  1. I think with his name recognition, Brown is basically a shoe-in for the job. Irregardless of how qualified or unqualified a candidate is, most voters will automatically check the box next to the name they recognize. SB city and county have a lot of “educated” voters, but many more are not politically educated, hence the election of the same ol’ same ol’ all the time. Oh well.

  2. Camarena has my vote. Sheriff’s deputies refused to take a sample of blood left at a $7,000 burglary at my business where the burglar injured himself, leaving blood at the site, saying, “This is not television; we don’t do that.”

  3. From Nick’s Independent article:
Brown acknowledged. “But if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. And I really love my job…. I don’t want to do anything else.”
…pretty much says it all “…you’ll never WORK day in your life.” So Bill is laying it all out there what he “Perceives” his JOB is all about.
That’s sufficient for me to vote for someone willing to actually do the WORK required (Juan)!

  4. It’s a nonpartisan office, leave the dumpster fire out of it. “Freedom driven” lmao, yeah that really seems to be what the conservatives want out of law enforcement. Must be why they like ramshackle border fences and prisons so much.

  5. It’s your vote but why waste it by guilt by association instead of judging the man himself? Perhaps after doing some research you’d feel the same way but this is not a party election- it’s about who can best protect us.

  6. This is a grossly naive statement. Learn a little history, law and policy before you make such silly claims. Unless you want to come across as a naive, ignorant blow hard. In that case, post on!

  7. Fitz yes I’m a big fan and you’re right- I’ve tried to recommend that they at least link to his news articles on the site instead of the generic stuff. They don’t have bill brown’s budget. There is an interview of Juan coming on KEYT Friday I believe.
That’s why I also posted the independent piece.our local press does a pretty good job considering these are small June elections.
Yes he has blue lives folks (I support police too). But think about it- a Hispanic sheriff can attract more Spanish speaking sheriffs in a county with 47% Hispanics. That’s a good thing. We have an issue with gangs and sex trafficking in Lompoc and Santa Maria Hispanic communities and I think the victims might be willing to come forward. Sex slavery is slavery. It’s a pet issue of mine that we don’t acknowledge there’s modern day slavery in our communities and it’s being ignored. Bill brown has done nothing on this. I think Juan will.
I am Literally at a conference right now where one of the topics is how can we talk to each other without tribalism and demonization. I hope I’ve done a decent job not demonizing you or bill brown.
