I don't notice any stories about the road work to begin on Mission Street 7/25-8/25. No idea what they are doing but the signs are up for the start.

Probably the creation of the ridiculous and very expensive short bicycle lane that caused the removal of a large number of old jacaranda trees and will co mingle pedestrians and bicyclists. But maybe something else?

Have you noticed that the stumps of the jacarandas they butchered months ago are still there, and several have begun valiant regrowth? The blinking warning light we've been seeing for weeks is, I believe, warning us of a time soon when they will scrape away that remnant of vegetation and create a one block long bike lane next to a sidewalk. Once again we have the juggernaut of a City project costing us untold tax dollars, disrupting traffic flows, for something useless.

And further destroying the unique beauty of our city. It's ironic that the outlandish cost of housing here, due to our unique beauty, is what is causing the destruction of that beauty... Roads being widened and gorgeous trees being removed to accommodate all the commuters who can't afford to live here. Our beautiful fountains, benches, and even our iconic carousel being removed because so many more people who can't afford housing are living in the streets and damaging them. Increasing crime, wonderful little shops shuttered sure to outlandish rents, filth and blight caused by the increasing homeless who need a place to live, too, and have to resort to living along the tracks and highways, the list goes on. Before long housing prices will drop due to the undesirability of what was once an oasis - that was destroyed by greed. But unfortunately the damage done will remain. Let this be a lesson to other wonderful little cities - nip the greed in the bud before they suffer the same fate. Countries in the Netherlands stay beautiful since everyone has a fair chance to live nicely because greed mongers aren't allowed to exploit their citizens.

The Netherlands are a country, it doesn't contain countries ... and they have bikeways everywhere.

The Netherlands is one country made up of provinces. It can be referred to as "Holland" and they speak Dutch. Bikes have played a primary role in transportation in Holland for decades. You can literally bike across the country on designated bike roads and lanes. Bikes in conjunction with a the Dutch NS Rail system provide a means to never have to own a car to get around. The trains go to every town and there are bike parking areas around every train stations. With regard to housing in Holland, it is very expensive to own a home (stand alone homes are about $800k USD, but they have "row houses" and condo/apartment options that are about $200-500k, especially in the Cities. Public housing is more and more prevelant due to the mass immigration that the Syrian , Middle Eastern and now Ukraine conflict produced. These same immigrants are causing huge debt issues for not only The Netherlands, but Germany as well.
