Raccoon Removal Recommendations?

By an edhat reader

Raccoons in our yard have managed to move a 10+ pound screw-top plastic container of dog food twice and even got it open! Any recommendations on raccoon removal companies locally? We’ve moved the containers to a closed space, but raccoons are still around.

  1. Minibeast is absolutely correct in that there is no “removing” them. Please educate yourselves about raccoons. They are nomadic animals, so they most likely do not live on your property. They are after the “easy pickings” food that you have left out for them, even when you think some silly screw-top container is going to keep these smart, but pesky, guys out. Sorry, they are much to smart and dexterous to let a so-called animal-proof container prevent them from getting to your delicious bounty. We put out our vegetable food scraps into our garden, and guess what happens: raccoon city. If you do not want them on your property or in your house:
    – We put out our vegetable food scraps into our garden, and guess what happens: raccoon city.
    – KEEP your animal food inside.
    – Dog door = raccoon/rat/etc. door.
    – Do not try to pick them up…even the babies because you’ll get bit by lil’ Rocky.
We throw our vegetable food scraps into our garden and we basically have raccoon city nearly every night (four of ’em two nights ago).
Side Note: Back in the 80s animal activists in the SF Bay area “kidnapped” a large group captured raccoons. The brain-trust activists decided to dump off the whole group at the Point Reyes National Seashore only to have them gobble up thousands of sea bird eggs. The activists were/are at it again at this same location, only this time they think that they are “saving” the Tule Elk.
