Win Tickets to Santa Barbara Fair & Expo

By edhat staff

This year’s Santa Barbara Fair and Expo kicks off Wednesday and will be open through Sunday at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.

With the intergalactic theme of “Out of this World,” the event offers more than 30 rides and games, a petting zoo, art show, live entertainment and music, pony rides, and all the fair food you can imagine. Cotton candy, candy apples, straight up candy, hot dogs, corn dogs, kettle corn, pizza… you name it and there’s probably a booth for it.

This year’s newest event is the “Lucha Libre Action Show” which will take place on Saturday.

Some locals are treated to free admission on specific days. On Thursday, first responders with an I.D. card gain free entry with one guest. On Saturday, seniors receive free entry between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Win Free Tickets!

We have a few passes and ride tickets to give away to our loyal edhat readers. To keep with the Fair & Expo’s alien theme of “Out of this World,” we want to hear your best space alien story. Real or fictional, funny or dramatic, the stories that amuse the edhat staff will win tickets.

  1. Eating dinner the other night, I went to grab something from the hall entrance. As I was walking back towards my meal a flash of light caught my attention. From the corner of my eye I saw a halo of light surrounding a little child. Startled, I jumped and thought to myself, “who’s kid is that and where did he come from!?” Took me a second before I realized “this kid,” was my own son who had oh so quietly snuck out of bed to come see what his parents were up to! He wasn’t from “Out of this World” after all, but for a second it did cross my mind he could be a little alien being wanting to see what us Earthlings were having for dinner!

  2. As I was walking on state street by Paseo Nuevo mall on a Saturday, I noticed a big lump covered by a green coat on the sidewalk. Normally, I would pay no attention and keep on walking as I’m used to seeing “different” things on State Street. It was in the middle of the day, so I just past the covered lump. Shortly I herd my name whispered. Immediately, I got chills. My name is not common at all! Out of fear but curiosity, I turned towards the lump and saw what I can only describe as an alien with a fish-like scaly limb, watery eyes and a deep raspy voice. I was terrified and confused until out of nowhere I also noticed that guy that walks around in white clothing looking like Jesus and thought to myself…and this is why I LOVE Santa Barbara! “Everything’s gonna be alright!” ~Guisela

  3. No. Don’t want tickets to buy bad food at ridiculous prices and throw money away on games which seldom give a prize worth the cost of the try and even more seldom give any prizes. Don’t want to encourage young people that this consumerism is “fun” and an expected way to spend money and meet social expectations. Don’t want to help carnies. Don’t want to encourage the waste of resources. Bah humbug you will say but people can live happier, rewarding and healthier lives outside this model of bad capitalism.

  4. Please consider that this event is not a real “Fair” or “Expo” in the sense that such things are sponsored and created by locals our of good will or public purpose. This is a commercial and exploitative event designed to separate you from your money. The SB County Fair is in Santa Maria each year, by the way.

  5. So there’s this cowboy and he’s like the king of the castle and then this astronaut shows up and he tries to take over and so the cowboy attempts to murder him. But instead, the astronaut is taken hostage by this evil psychopath and the cowboy has to rescue him and then they end up becoming really good friends.
