Vandenberg doesn't look great today for a Mars launch. Maybe by the morning it will clear up?

Glad I stayed up to watch it. First launch to another planet from the west coast! Had Spaceflight Now on the PC - interesting how we could see it well after it had crossed into latitudes well south of the Mexican border and into Baja.

It was cool to watch - I was up on TV Hill - had the play-by-play on my phone in the background. It was wild to hear the rumble of the launch so many minutes later -- a good reminder that 'sound' does not travel at 14K+ mph!

John - They're thinking visibility will be poor, but will not constrain the launch: https://www.space.com/40487-nasa-mars-insight-lander-go-for-launch.html

I'm thinking of sleeping in. Or, perhaps not. I can watch the launch on the NASA website then run outside if it does lift off or otherwise head back to bed.
