Does anyone know why Cox Communications has a monopoly in Santa Barbara? How come media has not pressured our public officials to make sure they improve?

Man, you must be new here. We’ve been screwed by the Cox monopoly for decades. Media pressure local public officials to improve? That is hilarious…made my day!
Is this a real query or some socialist dupe provocation? Cox owns its monopolies because it bought them.
Cox has been robbing us blind for decades while the Mayor(s)and city council(s) sit on their hands. It’s really a bad deal for consumers.
I watched a City official having lunch one day with a fellow I didn’t recognize… push over a fat envelope. Bam! Cash full.
Suddenly…. they switch sides.
That’s how it’s done.
5G isn’t going to do squat when you have to deal with silly data caps. You’ll just get to your cap faster. Also, the piss poor cell phone reception in the Goleta/SB area aren’t going to help either.
People seem to want “socialism” when it offers relief from capitalistic excess. We do have the power and justifiable right to allow the public to fight back when this happens. Unfortunately the companies are generally in it for a longer time and keep their eye on their goals while our politicians come and go and are often bought off. Minimally there needs to be regulation but look at what has happened to that in the area of utilities where PG&E and SCE are ripping us off by getting the commissions that are there to limit them to do their bidding after being wined and dined by these formerly public friendly companies.
I bet a small group of dedicated citizens could work on this and apply pressure to the City to get everyone a decent low-cost public alternative to Cox. But it won’t happen unless someone does this. I am willing!

RED CREEK… you know the saying “don’t believe everything you read on the internet?” Particularly in the last couple of years since a certain blowviator has promoted lying and deception to a whole new cultural norm… aren’t we great?
Yeah it really sucks that high speed internet transmitted over coaxial or fiber optic is so much more expensive than dial-up… aka champagne taste on a beer budget.
no monopoly, the fiber optic cables that exists work with Cox’s system. ANY other competitor can move in, but they would have to pull out all of the old cabling and replace it with what works for their system, and so far, no one wants to do that.
i hate cox. i just buy their internet to stream….
