When Will Highway 101 Offramps Open?

By an edhat reader

Does anyone know when the Highway 101 offramps in Montecito will open? Olive Mill sustained terrible damage, hard to imagine traffic would be allowed just yet. How about San Ysidro Road? I heard Jameson may be limited to mud truck traffic only to facilitate debris removal.

  1. The hills above Montecito are all ready to slide again. Another very heavy rainstorm will do it. The question is not when people will be allowed back. The question is why are people being allowed back into a very dangerous area that will be buried in mud and boulders again. This time it was 21 people killed. Next time it may be hundreds.

  2. People are escorted to and from places some people are living in their residences in safe areas I have heard of people being escorted from residences to the store.. As far as people being able to stay in hotels not everyone can afford Hotels I believe many residents of Montecito are sleeping in their vehicles some might even be homeless many are confused and having PTSD issues…There should be a shelter somewhere in town only for residents of Montecito evacuees, my opinion.

  3. By your logic (if that’s what you want to call it) it’s amazing Montecito managed to grow to the size it is today and in the density it has with catastrophic mudslides just threatening to flatten EVERYTHING in their path on a regular basis. But given your username it should not come as any surprise.

  4. To the comment @ 10:43AM- Look at how the oil industry grew, then after the 1969 spill (where no one died) it was restricted, with the goal of eventually closing the whole industry down. Should we not apply the same standards to Montecito ( where 21 people died)?

  5. I think it’s pretty unreasonable that Sheriff Brown is holding those of us in areas which are safe as if we are prisoners. We don’t live any where near to the hard-hit areas, but we are being penalized.
The supervisor should have successfully lobbied for a system by which we could at least make a short visit to VONS and back to our home.
If you can believe it the sheriff is now saying re-populating won’t begin until the 31st!
