Shortly after 2:30 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Motel 6 on Calle Real in Goleta looking for a possible suicidal man. When they approached the subject’s room, a deputy radioed ‘ Shots Fired,’ and numerous units responded. At 2:45 pm Deputies breached the door and located the subject down and a firearm, summoning Medics who had been staged at Albertson’s on Calle Real. 1. Yes, very sad. I believe Deputies were looking for both subjects based on information called in by others, but just couldn’t get to them in time. Law enforcement is very good and pays attention to every call from citizens about suicidal people, but in this second case he was very deliberate and intent on checking out.

  2. High costs of eating, gas prices thru the roof, housing costs so high the average working person is on the verge of homelesslessness, so much pressure to get by ……….. we’re going to see a lot more of this to come ( sadly ) .

  3. That may be true in some cases, but from what I’ve seen and heard the most common root cause is clinical depression associated with declining health. In the second case today the poor guy had to get around with a walker. Seems to have planned it for months, having bought a revolver in May. Medical professionals are trying to do better at detecting depression in routine physicals, but too often the impending act is just not detected, even by close family. When the alarm finally goes off, it is too late.
