  1. It’s coming! There’s going to be more and more of that!
Shoplifting is now excused and often glorified.
People elect D.A.s whose sole purpose is to release as many criminals as possible, as fast as possible.
The next step in S.B. will be the gang ransacking which is customary in S.F. , L.A. and others.
Woke is taking over and that’s the result, and it’s only going to get (much) worse!

  2. Ah SAC, most of the time you get it right but not here. This is a symptom of an unjust society, not a cause. Punishing these people will do nothing to address the rampant capitalism eroding our society. Things will only get worse. We need bigger, better action than slapping the petty criminals on the wrists. Problem is, the folks in charge, both by election and by their extreme financial status, are also the ones benefiting from this twisted system. I wonder more and more often when the sh*t is going to hit the fan…this is only the beginning

  3. 2:05 – I agree with you…mostly. This coordinated type of theft isn’t the same as a kid stealing food because he/she is hungry. These mass thefts are planned and calculated and should be prosecuted. Stealing is a crime and planning a mass crime should be treated differently so as to deter others. Granted, many are taking advantage of the lower priority assigned to shoplifting, but still… I think this is different and deserves a different approach.

  4. Sac, why not speak on the sins of the capitalists running the show, those that have created this desperation and anger among the people to their own runaway financial benefit? Why not speak on the rampant rich-created inflation in sectors that *only* affect the little guy, the average family, the poor folks, and serve to make the rich richer? Capitalist media has shaped your mind to focus only on punishing your peers and those in social classes below you. It is amazing and so very sad to watch.
It serves us all to open our eyes to the ills of capitalism. Focus on the cause, not the symptom.

  5. 2:32 – you’re missing my point and clearly don’t know me at all. I agree with lower penalties for petty theft/shoplifting. But once it becomes an organized crime like this, there needs to be a better way to handle it. I’ve been called a socialist countless times, but never had disappointed in me for suggesting a different approach to handline organized mass thefts.
Screw the corporations, but also….. as a society, we need laws. How much theft are you OK with? Should we legalize theft? From who? “Big corporations” only or do we also allow theft from local bakers or restaurants? Capitalism has been a massive failure for most people in this country, I agree, but that doesn’t mean I’m OK with allowing people to steal from each other.
I’d be interested to hear your proposal on how to allow theft.

  6. Bottom line.
Stealing is wrong. Don’t try to justify it because it’s a “corporate store”.
Seriously. There’s always someone with more & someone with less.
So is it ok for a homeless to steal from a low income family bec they have more than the homeless?
This lawlessness stems from the top.
    Eject the current politicians.
    Elect new

  7. There are some seriously twisted POV’s on this site… When a “Corporate” store like CVS, Grocery Stores, Macy’s, Starbucks etc. lose inventory due to stealing/theft, the ENTIRE community pays the price. Eventually, those “Corporate bad guys” will leave and you will have vacant, non tax paying retail stores…

    • Please, let them leave. All corporate stores pay minimum wage with no benefits except for a few managers. They drove out small businesses who, by the way, pay far more taxes than corps do with their armies of tax lawyers. Turn empty stores into housing and/or locally owned businesses. Everyone, conservative and liberal, has had it with corporate parasites. GTFO of our town, we don’t buy the whole “we’re job creators, we’re special and deserve boatloads of tax breaks” bullshit. Get out before the guillotines show up 😉

    • Chillin’ your wish may soon come true. Rite Aid is floundering and will probably file for bankruptcy soon. Whether they then keep the SB and Goleta open will be a fair question. But if they don’t the attitudes displayed on this site by those who defend stealing will be the ones to blame.

    • 4:44am: (imagine waking up that early to be a shill for a multibillion $ corp lmaooo) Shoplifting will be to blame for their business failure? Have you ever been within 100 yards of a business or economics class? Or even a retail job? Those losses barely register for them. They fail because they’re an awful company that treats their employees and customers badly.“Too big to fail” no doubt, here comes Papa Fed with the corporate welfare using our tax money to fund what basically amounts to gambling. Off with their heads, frankly. It’s too late to rectify the situation, our system is bought and paid for. Burn it all down.

  8. Sounds like this was one of those mobs of people rushing the place. Is there an enhancement or additional charge available for prosecutors to use to elevate this from simple shoplifting to an organized, mass crime? I don’t think RICO would apply, but there should be something more to nail the people who organize these mass robberies.

  9. My husband and I worked very hard for 40 years a lot of times we each had two jobs. We raised our three children with no assistance from anyone we purchased our house we managed to save money which is enabled us to retire at the ripe age of 70. Who’s gonna justify the thief that came into our yard took furniture stole plants and some of our grand childrens toys. Are we to feel sorry for them as they enjoy our things?

  10. Where do we shop if all the stores leave. Amazon lol how much more corporate can you get. Low pay barely get your brakes they don’t treat their employees well I know plenty of people that I work for them. We actually need local stores a lot of people especially older people do not shop online. Or Macy’s is leaving so they can put in housing where are the people going to buy clothes that are semi affordable target? Guess it’s back to going to Ventura shopping it’s the older people that I feel sorry for.

  11. You’re right Alex, DNC and GOP are both behooved to their corporate masters, the DNC just throw out some platitudes pretending to care about the little guy, then legislate for big business. Uncomfortable fact is the MAGA movement better represents the common lower and middle class Americans than either the DNC or GOP. Big government only helps big business.

  12. Small-business owners from coast-to-coast have been arming themselves to protect their businesses from thieves/criminals/shoplifters (one in the same I suppose). Nearly every day you can read about instances and view videos of law-abiding owners and citizens who are fed up with being ripped off and/or having folks ruin their lives. Police across the country are understaffed, overwhelmed, and simply not able to protect people…and often themselves. Robbing a business or person with a toy gun often ends up with dead or wounded “perps.” I don’t think anyone in their right mind wants to be robbed/beaten by losers who think it’s A-OK to steal from a company for paying minimum wage. Some on this board have stated that they think it’s quite funny when “big biz” gets ripped off.
