Flight Path Change?

By an edhat reader

In recent months it seems that more and more commercial jets are flying their east to west approach to the airport over the city. Mostly it’s been over the Mesa and TV hill, but lately it’s seems like they’re coming in directly over downtown.

I thought there was a noise abatement regulation that required the approach to be over the ocean. Am I wrong or has that regulation changed?

  1. As traffic and congestion are at all time highs going in and out of LA, more travelers, myself included, are opting to leave out of SBA to connection points like PHX & DFW. It used to be a for sure 1:40 trip to the South Bay from SB- now you are one traffic incident from 3 hrs… Welcome to California!

  2. I’d love to see more non-stop flights to LAX from SBA added, preferably “yesterday.”
Right now there are only THREE, nonstop flights per day from SBA-LAX. They leave at 6am, 10:32 am & 4:32pm. Boo! All others require at least one stop, like in Phoenix, San Francisco, Tucson, Las Vegas & even Albuquerque!
When traveling far, especially to Europe, we like a big, two aisle plane and that’s usually only had out of LAX near here. The biggies just done tend to go PHX & SAN.
Will SBA and the airlines ever get this service again like the good old days when American flew that route? Right now, UAL is a joke especially with fares & variable times from SBA to LAX. Not to mention who really wants to fly a 10+ hour flight on UAL?
