Explosion Sounds Around Midnight?

Did anyone else hear and have an origin for the three rather loud explosions Wednesday night just before midnight. The report sounded far enough off in the distance and the sound frequency sounded low enough for them to have been significant sized bombs. Possibly transformers blowing? Enough to make me wonder....

Explosion Sounds Around Midnight?

I am near Patterson and Hollister and I heard 3 loud distinct booms. Not sure what it was, but less than 5 mins later our power went out and back on. Shut everything off, tvs, computers...

The first sound woke me up out of a sound sleep. I looked out the window to see the second and then the third cause of all the noise, colorful fireworks exploding in the air. Not nearly as big nor as high as the large fireworks we see on the 4th etc. I believe the fireworks were launched from the area of the former El Rancho School (now Santa Barbara Montessori School and the Waldorf School in West Goleta) or maybe the area with many eucalyptus trees next to the school we used to call King's Castle.

About Midnight last night I saw a flash, like a transformer blowing up but I had my music on and didn't hear the booms, I'm just off El Suano,

One our our neighbors thinks it may have been a shotgun, but I doubt anyone in the Fairview area would hear a shotgun from Winchester Canyon, right?

Yes, I heard the last one after my dog woke me up barking like crazy. We thought it was fireworks. Where did you hear them? We are out in Winchester Canyon.

Yes woke me and dogs up too. Sounded like the big professional fireworks. We’re in the Fairview area Goleta.

Wow. Seems odd there is so little response. I heard a lot of loud noises up by the SB bowl area on Milpas in the middle of the nights for about a month., 3am, 4am, etc. earlier in the year. Like they were breaking concrete or hammering in telephone polls and it would last for 15-30 minutes. It woke me up many a time. I emailed the city council person for the area and she did not respond back. The sounds were too far from the freeway to be CalTrans work and I don't see how this is allowed.

Rather than email a Council member, who will likely only tell you to contact your "Beat Officer," you should call down to the Santa Barbara Police station and get in contact with your Beat Officer. Then, be sure to ask him/her for the phone # to special gal (forget her name) at the Santa Barbara Fire Dept who is avid about chasing down miscreants who set off fireworks within City Limits----if you think it was fireworks, that is. As an aside: don't ever let SBPD or Sheriff's Dept dispatch treat you as though you're the only one hearing any type of loud, obnoxious noises. If you're hearing them, so are others. More than likely others besides you are calling in to find out what the heck is going on and why it is allowed to continue.
