Cruise Ship Dumping?

By an edhat reader

Yesterday from the harbor the cruise ship started dumping unknown liquids from the front for about 15 minutes. Any idea if it’s just sea water or waste water?

  1. Bahaha, silly people. I come here to get my laughs from those whom lack common sense. Why would they dump from the front of the ship and then have to motor right through it? Thank you to the anchor chain washing post.

  2. I would much rather someone ask when they see something, then shrug and walk away. It’s not like cruise ships have the greatest environmental track record. I had a similar concern several years ago when the surrounding water around one side of a cruise ship was murky brown. Someone at the harbor explained that the motor will churn up stuff from the ocean floor. Thanks to the poster for posting… I learned something new today.

  3. I see zero problem with OP’s post, how else are people supposed to learn unless they ask? It’s important we stay vigilant about our local environment, especially when it comes to any type of dumping. Glad to know it is a non-issue 🙂

  4. The ship did not want our dirt on their clean ship. They must pass rigorous, detailed and often spot inspections conducted by CDC – Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP). Time to stop making up unfounded horror stories about cruise ships, and learn how they work with all applicable and strict guidelines.

  5. Then the environmentalist need to demand the city to build a cruise port. Require ships to power down and not generate any exhaust, less tenders in the harbor, and less damage to the sea floor and marine life. Princess Cruises (our visitor most of the time) has built numerous ports. Doubt we’d pass the Coastal Commission or local city council but I don’t see cruises stopping anytime soon.
