Castillo Street Under Crossing Progress

Construction of the Castillo Street under crossing has proven to be stressful for motorists and residents trying to access Santa Barbara City College, West Beach, the Harbor, and more.

Locals are intimately familiar with the ongoing repair attempts, arguments over sea level effect, and the continuous financial burden over keeping this popular street driveable.

Edhat reader Art Sylvester captured two perspectives of the current construction on July 30th. The first photo (seen above) is a a bird’s eye view of the entire project site. The second photo (below) is a low elevation drone view of the construction on Castillo Street where it goes beneath the Union Pacific Railroad and Highway 101, showing the new concrete surface that Caltrans poured last week.

How long do edhatters think this repair will last?
