Jun 15, 2022 10:51 AMThe posts dissolved into a pretty stupid argument far from the original topic

Jun 15, 2022 11:42 AM@10:51 -- I don't see any argument or rudeness in the comments. I also don't see how talking about the cause of a thing (in this case, a very dangerous fire started by a vagrant) is "from from the topic." Difficult and non-PC, yes... but very much the topic, danger, and story at hand.

Jun 15, 2022 09:28 AMOur local governments are incurring serious expenses $$$ for each incident response. I recommend that our local agencies position themselves to force Caltrans to pay cost if they continue to fail to manage their property. That's what would happen to any other land-owner if they allowed such illegal, neglectful occupancy with clearly demonstrated public nuissance. hy should Caltrans' absenteeism be different?
Start not with a suit, but clear letters that there is clear, predictable, and proven public danger associated with the land that Caltrans owns and manages. Tell them to take immediate action or pay the millions and millions in costs that is being taken away from our kids, our parks, our health care.... It's hard for me to put into words how stupid and cowardly the political response to our current situation is.

Jun 15, 2022 09:11 AMYeah let’s not nitpick on directions, big picture is we’re allowing homeless to start fires all along the 101. What’s the solution?
If we want to keep the stays quo politically, meaning we’re ok supporting this lifestyle, my suggestion is we completely clearcut the freeway corridor. No more trees, greenery. No more fuel. Yes, it will look like LA. But if “we” want to allow the homeless to live as they choose, there’s a price to pay.
Otherwise, get ready for one of these to become a big fire that takes out whole neighborhoods, people, pets, property.

Jun 15, 2022 08:10 AMOverall 101 is a North/South freeway. It does run East/West through south SB County.
The last time I was in the San Fernando Valley, I was on a surface street that had on ramps to the 101 and the signs indicated 101 West and 101 East.

Jun 15, 2022 07:42 AMOK,…….. now that compass class is over.
I wonder when we will start indicating the VEGETATION FIRE labels with a prefix or suffix to show the vegetables didn’t spontaneously ignite! Trying to think of a catchy phrase…..

Jun 14, 2022 10:07 PMThe Pacific Ocean is to the west, eventually. If you are in Southern SB County and want to go to the beach from the 101 from Carpinteria to Cojo, you are going to need to go south. That is why we call it the south coast. As for the 101, the over all direction is North South. Look at a map. You stay on it and you meander a bit west maybe a little east here and there, but stay on it and you will end up north.
The people that design roads are not sitting around pulling their hair out because in order to circumnavigate an obstacle like the Santa Ynez range they have to build 40 miles of the highway more or less to the west.

Jun 14, 2022 08:15 PM@7:45, Yes...we know. We're on a weird east/west thing to Point Conception, but the 101 says North and South. So when we watch the sunset, towards north 101. When we dive it's beachside north. we get it... Most things are vs the 101 and easily deciphered. You got it, right? Thank you Drew as always for the info!!!

Jun 14, 2022 08:50 PMTagdes - except examples as: going west on 75 from Fort Lauderdale to Napels, or 41 out of Miami... Looked it up that the 41 in the UP Mi. Marquette to Ishpeming I know that place, drove by on the way to school... Ishpeming is the birthplace of organized skiing. :
