A major travel and tourism effort is about to be launched to help the Santa Barbara County rebound from the recent mudflow event in Montecito. It will include TV, radio and social media ads, along with Amtrak discounts. Industry leaders were brainstorming in Santa Barbara Thursday.

I would not count on Murillo dedicating herself to critical city issues. On Tuesday she will try to oust Councilmember Jason Dominguez from the seat he was appointed to in January. The Council elected him to serve as the city’s representative to the Santa Barbara County of Governments (SBCG). Murillo wants the position and is being a spoilsport because she was not elected to it. If Murillo is appointed to SBCAG she will be spending time on a lot of county transportation issues, not issues that need her attention her at the city. – It is ludicrous to think that at this time in the city’s history that the Murillo should focus on County, rather than city issues. Besides that, she is wasting Staff time and resources to strong arm her way into a position the Council already awarded over her objections. – She lost but can’t be graceful about it. – Shouldn’t Murillo focus on the city’s top issue like the downtown, tourism, affordable housing, development and homelessness? The fire and mudslide has damaged the tourist industry to a far greater extent than the 2015 Refugio oil spill. Southern California Edison and the Montecito Water District have both been accused of causing the mudslide or contributing to the disaster. Should those 2 entities be given the same treatment oil companies get and be forced to shut down?
