This Tuesday, March 3, is known as “Super Tuesday” which is an election day early in a United States presidential primary season when the greatest number of U.S. states hold primary elections and caucuses.

Outside of presidential politics, it also determines some of the local candidates. There are a few heated races that have local residents divided. The race for District 1 County Supervisor, 24th District Representative, and 37th District Assembly have sparked many debates.

Take our edhat voter poll below for just a few of the races to state who you will vote for, or who you already voted for, and share your thoughts in the comments below. [Please leave national politics out of the discussion and stick to local stuff]

  1. I feel really bad for those that voted early, then to see their person drop out. ******* Maybe, next election, they can have 1st choice & 2nd choice (in case their person drops out, or gets kicked out, or dies etc).

  2. Agree with Capps & No on 13, but Caldwell is slippery as all heck. He’s partnered up with Porter, another complete fraud who’s spent hundreds of thousands to lie & sling mud at Joan Hartmann. He & Caldwell & Das have accepted many thousands from Big Oil, Big Developers & numerous others outside this County & even the state in the case of Porter.
Porter’s campaign has been accepting thousands from a shell organization called “Buellton First.” Most money comes from out of the are & even the state! A Sacramento Supervisorial candidate even donated to Porter! Why? IF Porter wins via his purchasing votes, he’s going to owe MANY people big time. If that happens, watch out when he votes! Here’s the proof: https://tinyurl.com/tnxy9qm

  3. Andy Caldwell revealed his true ignorant, hateful nature several years ago on his radio program. Larry King was a gay Oxnard high school student who had been murdered by a classmate, and Andy’s guest was a homophobic blowhard who said that King had tried to seduce the other boy, which made the killing perfectly acceptable—AND CALDWELL AGREED WITH HIM!!! I would sooner vote for Trump than that maggot. Either Caldwell is very, very stupid or very, very much a homophobic bigot. He has no business serving in any elected capacity anywhere.

  4. It is not a school construction bond. it is a cover-up for the over-promised teacher pension mess. There used to be plenty of money for school buildings and maintenance, but now all the money goes to pay off the teachers pensions, perks, benefits in return we get a #45 ranked K-12 system. This is a racket of the highest order. Prop 98 guarantee to schools is doling out huge amounts of money every year – 50% of the entire general state’s revenues – plenty of money for construction and maintenance and well paid teachers. But the teachers unions took it all for themselves making overly lavish promises, including taking all the extra Local Contro Funding that was supposed to go to help “english learners”. But the “english learners got nothing, it all went to the teachers paychecks instead and not one kid improved. So now the teachers unions are demanding “bi-lingual ” schools to cover up their recurrent failures.

  5. Das, Caldwell & Porter all need to go down & go away from this county with their tails tucked while they ponder what they did with all that donated money. Hah! There’s going to be some very pi**** off donors & organizations come Wednesday morning. Ooof!

  6. Voters, can’t say you did not have much better choices than the local political establishment incumbents and their merry band of revolving door players. Is this a union town or what? You can feel very safe voting all of them out, because you have excellent alternatives on the ballot.

  7. Caldwell gets what the Democrats have done to this county. He is the very best choice. He does his homework, thinks clearly, tells it like it is. A lot more depth than the Left’s cartoon version of him. You vote is safe and well placed, voting for Caldwell.

  8. Looks like for at least 30% polled here, Trump is not such a dirty word. Good to see Trump supporters and conservative voters are not an endangered species in this town after all. Not yet a critical voting mass, but AB5 is giving a lot of independents serious pause, and they are ready now to seek out better options.. Out of a skewed environment that is not demonstrably friendly to conservative points of view, it will be interesting to see how the wider electorate actually votes.

  9. 10:39, too bad you never read any of Andy Caldwell’s guest opinion pieces in our local daily. They have been excellent. And a surprise to many of us who had not known him outside of his Colab watch dog days tracking the county board of supervisors. The fact he was actually right in those watch dog comments grows more apparent every day. Therefore, not sure where your cartoon buffoon version of Caldwell comes from. Hope you take the time to read him. Maybe you could meet him on the field of ideas, instead of scurrilous personal attacks.

  10. Lots of us left the Democrat party and either switched to GOP or registered in some sort of “independent” category. But what in fact happened, as they say, is the Democrat party left us. We could no longer stomach what the Democrat party had become in the past few decades, particularly in this state. Getting “woke” works both ways. It was easy to leave the Democrat party behind. The voting trends in this election will be a belweather. Democrats have over-reached and under-performed.

  11. Someone went out in the dead of night and put a bunch of illegal signs for Caldwell and Porter in the public road easements. Hope the same losers come in the dead of night tonight and dump them all to the ash heap of political history. Caldwell believes in forced gay conversion therapy. Yucky guys, both of them.

  12. ” the increasing federal debt is driven by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.” — Wrong, as always. When people pay into these entitlement programs, it goes into the general fund. The government then spends that money, incurring debt. It’s the spending of money that isn’t tax revenue that incurs debt, not the source that the money was borrowed from.

  13. MAR 03, 2020 11:50 AM Not even 30 minutes ago I was having the same conversation (in part) with our mailman, regarding wasted trees. Never in my life, never ever EVER have I and my family received such a vast amount of political campaign cards. The number was simply ridiculous. Our postman said the added burden was horrible and then we agreed that probably 90% of the cards went from mailbox directly into the blue recycling bin.

  14. Caldwell is just as much of a misogynist and buffoon as Limbaugh. Two peas in a pod. Not a personal attack, just gleaned from hearing Andy ramble on at endless meetings. Most assuredly, he does not have the best interests of Santa Barbara in mind.

  15. MP805: The California Lottery has not given a penny to California. It has taken at least twice the amount you noted from our poorest citizens in a scam that should not be legal. In fact if you tried to run it yourself you would be arrested. In addition it has recently been investigated for more fraud in giving away entries to cronies and celebrities and spending big bucks on “expenses” for “management.” We should put this scam out of business. It is a bad bet and worse policy.

  16. When the choice is the current one-party swamp gas and pot funk, anyone will be a breath of fresh air. Andy Caldwell luckily is a very good choice that will get us the change we need. He nails the critical issues that have been left to languish under his opponent’s negligent watch. Salud Carbajal has not earned re-election.

  17. You simply just cannot hand the government a pot of money without it quickly becoming a political slush fund. Big government anything is big trouble. Back to basics. Our nation’s Founders warned us about Big Government and tried to protect us from it. Slowly those protections have whittled away. Be on guard. Stop the country from being a leaky sieve spending even more of other people’s money. Target mutual needs, monitor and account for money spent and results achieved. Stop writing the government big checks, and end up with nothing to show for it. This is a different orientation. Good time to start is now. No, Big Government is not solving anything. But it is enriching a few on the inside. Transparent California tells this story far better than I can. Who are we paying, what are we paying them and what are we getting in return.

  18. Monique Limon gave us AB5, ADU and AUD’s, just to name a few draconian changes and power grabs we now have to endure. Why would anyone want to move her up the political food chain. Remember when “the state” does something to us, that “state” has a face and a name. Currently that name is Monique Limon. She has not earned any right to be elected to anything. Stop doing this to yourselves, voters.

  19. Pushing for Jason Dominguez. A practical pro-business Democrat. Anyone willing to call out their own party when they’ve gone too far gets my vote. Unfortunately, very few politicians are willing to do this this anymore thanks to Trump and his divisive brand of politics.

  20. “stop calling fiscal reform of all these debt-busting programs “cuts”.” – Ok, we’ll just call it “theft”. Because Social Security and Medicare are paid by citizens out of their payroll taxes. Here’s the irony: the people (aka Republicans) who want to steal this hard-earned money and give it to Amazon and Jeff Bezos as tax breaks aim their propaganda at young people who are paying into these funds but have not yet collected anything. They aim to convince these working people that Social Security is a ripoff and they will never receive anything, and then support these “reforms” that rob them of their own money. “The money will be gone by the time I’m eligible to collect it” is ONLY true if these programs are destroyed. However, because of the large size (that’s what “boom” means) of the baby boom generation, the Social Security trust fund is due to run out of reserves by 2035, at which point there will only be enough payroll taxes to pay 75% of SS. There’s a simple solution to this — lift the cap on the income subject to payroll taxes. Of course it’s people with incomes over the cap who tend to oppose this … and those people, being wealthier and more powerful, pay for the propaganda to convince poorer people to screw themselves.

  21. Andy Caldwell thinks women belong at home, barefoot and pregnant. He implied while referring to the Metoo movement, with so many women in the workplace now, men are confused about how to act. They get mixed messages because of how women dress and they are around them all day. But if women were at home where they are supposed to be, there wouldn’t be so many issues with harassment. He also said Leprosy was running rampant in homeless populations, another fallacy he learned from Fox News. I am a moderate and I am appalled with mostly everything Andy Caldwell says. He wants less government , except when it comes to women’s bodies and women’s rights.

  22. Murillo has no chance of winning. Even after the 4 HUGE ridiculous mailers I got from her campaign in the last two weeks. She certainly doesn’t deserve it. She will go back to her powerless Mayor job and continue her ineffective governance until the local Dem powerhouse decides where to put her next. Never underestimate the machine. Culver et all will cheat , lie and steal to control this county and city.

  23. I see that as a positive. People’s views are allowed to change and evolve. Regardless of motivation, if you’re willing to embrace the other side you’re willing to consider all solutions. Answers to issues exist on all sides of the political spectrum. I’m more concerned about someone so rooted in ideology (ala Bernie Sanders) they become blind to practical solutions.

  24. I was surprised how many giant glossy mailers I got from the ‘environmental’ candidates Das and Cathy. Wasn’t voting for either anyway, but wow, what a waste of trees. And when did Cathy become an environmental leader, standing in the non-native ice plants, as photographed in mailer #1 or 2, I forget, I got so many. What a joke. Mollie Culver, Darcel Elliot, and Gail Teton Landis are the problem in this county, people. That’s who’s controlling who you even get to vote for in these elections. We can do better than these two losers for sure.
