Solstice

By the edhat staff

With it’s usual charm and whimsy, the Summer Solstice Festival in Santa Barbara did not disappoint.

For its 49th year the theme “Roots” took on many forms ranging from earthly tree trunks to old-school roller skating. There were floats, face paintings, live music, a variety of dance styles, and more.

Santa Barbara Street was crammed from Ortega to Micheltorena Streets as onlookers smiled and cheered. The festivities ended at their usual spot, the shady Alameda Park where attendees and parade participants danced to live music and imbibed on food and drink.

Below are photos of this year’s solstice festivities submitted by edhat readers:

  1. one of the best parades in many years! My dog Karma was dressed up, doing tricks for the crowd. What an amazing and fun time. So many colors and wonderful designs. The dancers were beautifully decorated, and their performances were fun to watch. So many smiling faces and happy people. Had a good time with my friends @SBPD, officers Kasper and Powell on their motorcycles keeping the street free of people and safe for the parade participants. Thanks guys! We know you were baking on those bikes and in all of that gear. Thanks for keeping it safe and fun for all of us!
