Specific Road Closure Questions

Edhat readers have questions about specific road closures in Montecito and Carpinteria.

Questions by edhat readers

  • Why are most on-ramps going North in Carp still closed? Carp Ave is a daily mess as a result of that, is there any explanation?

  • Old Coast Highway from the roundabout @ Hot Springs westbound to Salinas Street is open to traffic but, the opposite direction is blocked by Santa Barbara Police officers.

Cabrillo Blvd. from the roundabout @ Coast Village past the Bird Refuge is open westbound all along the beach, but the opposite direction is blocked at Milpas Street by Santa Barbara Police officers.

There seems to be no good reason for either of these roadblocks because Channel Drive, is blocked to the east at Cabrillo Blvd., Coast Village Road is blocked to the east after Hot Springs and Hot Springs is blocked and dead ends after Alston Road.

This seems like an expensive waste of police resources during this emergency period.

Specific Road Closure Questions

Why does there always have to be some buffoon complaining about resources and cost? This always happens when someone genuinely needs the help of SAR during a hike or any other occurrence when someone needs help. Some SB people need to seriously stfu and only open their mouth if they're going to contribute solutions.

Love how people jump in when they have no idea. there is no clean up on Cabrillo from the closure to Stella Mare or the cemetery yet the won't let you through and when I asked why since the maps clearly show this is not in the closure area they lied and said the maps are wrong. So it's likely just easier to stop everyone at Milpas although you can go around but get stopped again at Ninos Dr.

By the way, the freeway is only open north to the turn off for 150 in Carpinteria. Hence, Carp Ave is full of north bound traffic. It's not done just to "mess" things up. Patience, and be thankful for all the responders and just for being alive!

My guess is there is a good reason, just no an obvious one. They aren't out there just to have "expensive waste of police forces" and to have fun.
