  1. On Thursday I was traveling back into town on 154 from Lake Cachuma and noticed that none of the giant trucks used the turn outs. When I haul my Mule to Live Oak Campground I always use the turn outs because the speed at which I can safely navigate the road is never more than the speed limit. I reported one of the truck drivers to the local company that they work for because I was able to take a photograph of the license plate when we came to a stop at the bottom of the hill at Calle Real. Their human resources department got right back to me and said that they would educate the driver.

  2. Long-haul and big-rig drivers never use the San Marco Pass unless they absolutely have to (like 101 is shut down) or if they are required to make a delivery in that area. It takes quite an imagination to believe otherwise. On the other hand, IF they choose to take that route, there’s nothing that prevents them from doing so, especially if they live in that area or have to take their rigs to have it worked on by a mechanic in/near the SYV. There certainly are timid drivers who transport their animals in underpowered vehicles towing 50s-era trailers over The Pass who are intimidated by the big rigs, but in reality, they have nothing to worry about. No one likes getting stuck behind a slow-moving vehicle, but c’mon people, it’s only an extra few minutes for goodness sakes….the wine and slot machines are NOT going anywhere. “Chill and enjoy the ride” is what I like to say when doing the turtle crawl in my car.
