Scanner Reports 4-9-18

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Reading my favorite columnist on SUNday in the Times, Steve Lopez wrote about a woman who has Alzheimer’s disease and has been missing from her home for over 18 months, she simply walked away from her husband and disappeared. An off-duty LAPD police officer saw a flyer for the missing woman: Nancy Paulikas 57, of Manhattan Beach, and joined in the search for the woman when he is not protecting the people of Los Angeles. Mike Goldberg spends his free time in the helping in the search for the missing woman. I’m not stealing the story here but as I read it several times I flashed on a sentence that” Some people that go missing end up as homeless.” They wander the streets until they are found if lucky. I have known many people who knowingly left home and ended up homeless never going back including myself. I wonder how many homeless folks that are homeless have medical issues that they walked away from that don’t know who they are, or where they came from yet they are living this new way of life that they think they have lived all along? A search on Google reveals quite a few cases of missing people thought to be dead living lives elsewhere for years, some of these folks found homeless. I’m pretty sure you can get on the Los Angeles Times Website and find the article along with a picture of Nancy Paulikas just in case she might be here somewhere, one never knows I hope they find her. It’s been a long time, she could very well be in a Care Home somewhere also please look at her picture. I like the quote from the police officer it reminds me of our cops here in Santa Barbara “If you’re really a cop, real cops care.” Anyway, I bet there are many homeless folks out there who had lives before they became homeless. For some being homeless is a choice but not for all.
