The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
The Santa Barbara Police Department is urging any more victims or anyone with information related to this investigation to contact the Santa Barbara Police Department: Detective Sgt. Larson 805-897-2347.

Oct 02, 2021 01:54 PMThat’s messed up. What is a minor doing on an app that explicitly prohibits minors? Catfishing? Bad motives? Hoping to sue SMHS and make a quick buck? It’s sad all around. But the saddest part is the culture of homophobia in SB. If guys could actually put a face pic on their profile on gay apps without fear, this wouldn’t have happened. As an SMHS alumnus and former student of award-winning teacher Mr. Bradley, this whole ordeal is whack. I hope the kid faces consequences more than just karma and getting banned from the app.

Oct 02, 2021 04:01 PMYou hope the kid faces consequences? How about the adult trying to hook up with an adolescent? Damn.

I moved here in 1970, my wife and daughter were born here. We are not homophobic.

Oct 02, 2021 05:37 PMGer8t, the fact that you and your wife aren't homophobic is truly Gr8t.
You're just two people. If you really think your views must represent the majority in the area, I mean....

Don't forget my daughter, that is 3. Provide me with evidence that the majority of people living in sb are homophobic and I will agree with you.

Oct 02, 2021 09:49 PM@Alexblue, the app is for people over the age of 18. So this juvenile lied about his age in order to use it. Apps of this nature are not illegal, and if this juvenile assumed any desire for privacy, he would not have made his profile visible to strangers and most certainly would not have engaged in any lengthy kind of conversation. Additionally, it's common for people to ask for, and receive, explicit content within apps like this. Why was the juvenile on the app in the first place, and would he have still reported it, had it *not* been a teacher that he recognized? I suspect the defense attorneys will have a few legs to stand on. This is very weird.

Oct 03, 2021 05:54 AMHow do you know the app was for adults only? The article doesn’t say app was used.

Oct 03, 2021 01:46 PMThanks, Seabird, I don't know the particulars of the case at all (other than the arrest) so this would all be speculative.

Oct 04, 2021 08:45 AM805, where did the story state these facts about violating the policies of the site so you could accuse the victim of nefarious motives?
Homophobia is not the cause of this arrest. The charges indicate he clearly knew the victim was a juvenile. Bad judgment IS a crime.

Oct 04, 2021 10:34 AMI hope that 805 is correct. Unfortunately, even if the student was illegally on the app (which I have no proof of, since I don't know the app or the age rules) it does not bode well for Mr. Bradley. The whole thing makes me sad. He seemed to be a dedicated, fabulous teacher.

Oct 04, 2021 11:37 AMGER8T, thanks, the thing is I don't care if you agree or disagree with me. If you want to know more about homophobia in your community get out and ask some questions. Or don't.

Right back at you.
" If you want to know more about homophobia in your community get out and ask some questions. Or don't."
I didn't make the accusation that SB has a culture of homophobia. No evidence has been provided on this forum to support the accusation. Nothing more than that. As far as getting out and asking questions, were you suggesting something like this: Hi Vons clerk, are you homophobic?

Oct 02, 2021 05:13 PMWhat idiot in their possibly momentary coherent mind would even dare to post anything even remotely sexual in nature about anyone or anything - much less about a minor.
I thought all you Gen X, Gen Z, Millennials were all "tech savvy" and some such - yet you persist in advertising your perversions online for all to see.
Ever heard about "quiet desperation"?
Keep it to yourselves and stay off the Internet.

Oct 02, 2021 11:06 PMYou've missed the mark here, the problem definitely isn't people using the internet and posting online, sexual photos or not.

Oct 02, 2021 09:08 PM8688 - If cops observed " explicit [photographs] of a suspect" involved in an illegal sex act, that's pretty much a 'gotcha. What's the old adage about photographs?

Oct 02, 2021 09:33 PMThe photos were of the adult suspect himself. This article does not say anything about him being depicted in an illegal sex act—where did you get that, Doulie? His alleged crime was that he sent the explicit photos to a minor. What is not clear is whether he knew the recipient was a minor. Was the social network site open to minors? This article doesn’t have enough info. I withhold judgement until I know more.

Oct 02, 2021 09:38 PMTo clarify, when I read that the minor received “explicit photographs” of the suspect, I read that to mean explicit nudes. There is no mention of any other persons being in the photos.

Oct 03, 2021 06:10 AMAHCHOOO - The juvenile victim reported receiving messages of a “sexting” nature and eventually received explicit photographs of the suspect. Please read the definition of sexting and you'll understand the crime alleged. Yes, it's possible the suspect did not know the victim was a minor. But, I suspect investigators eliminated (that possibility) or the arrest should not have been made. I'm not passing judgement but it does not look good for 'heem.

Oct 03, 2021 06:21 AMAHCHOOO - My understanding is photographs only involved one person/suspect, whatever the content.

Oct 03, 2021 02:07 PMYou can't (legally or morally) throw around accusations like that in a comment section. If you know something, call the police. If you don't, then don't speculate and rumor-monger when the life of the person you are accusing stands in the balance.
-
-
-
Oct 03, 2021 12:12 PMIf the reporting person is under 18 and the site asked for confirmation of age before being granted access and an underage person lied, how can he claim anything about anybody/anything on that site? Illegally accessing the site obviates any questions of sexual orientation or conduct. If some one of age requesters a complaint, that's another story. If someone illegally enters my house, they have no right to post any pictures of me on the internet regardless of content.

Oct 03, 2021 01:42 PMMaybe having a playboy subscription belonging to "Dad," and storing the whole lot in the garage is not the most helpful message to send to a young girl.
Why not take the high road and raise your children in the best way possible.
And save your perversions to yourself.

Oct 03, 2021 08:28 PMFor SBConservative (who’s comment was deleted), who claims that predatory behavior has been going on for over 10 years: by not reporting it, aren’t you complicit (if in fact it is true)? If it is true, you should be arrested for abetting a criminal. I’ll wait until I know facts from a reputable source before I pass judgement.
