People’s Self-Help Housing Completes Renovations at Santa Barbara Historic Home

People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) has opened a new affordable housing property for formerly homeless women in Santa Barbara: Heath House. The historic building which previously served as a hospice for AIDS patients, had fallen into extensive disrepair.  The building was purchased by PSHH in 2020 and led to the opportunity for the organization to restore and extensively rehabilitate the cherished community landmark.

“We feel privileged to provide this special place for women coming out of homelessness,” said Rick Gulino, Director of Neighborhood Development & Residential Services “Heath House is truly one-of-a-kind and we are excited to be welcoming residents home at last.”

The two-story, 2,500 square-foot Heath House has seven bedrooms, five-bathrooms, multiple common areas, and a shared kitchen and dining room. Building on the considerable success of its programming at the nearby Victoria Hotel, and in Ventura the historic El Patio Hotel, PSHH will additionally offer onsite supportive services to all its residents.

To learn more about the sensitive restoration of the property, readers can see the results of the ten-month project at Property Promo.
