I don’t know what the story is figured the detergent guy works at the gas station there and did not want the drunk guy around.
As for “none of the churches offering him a place to stay” could be because here in Carpinteria some of the homeless turn down offers of getting off the street.
Flicka, here in the real world some of the members turn down reminders of their failure to care for their fellow human beings. I sincerely doubt, btw, that you have any real knowledge of what any of the homeless turn down, are offered or accept. And Carpinteria is without any resources for the homeless. They hope to move them on to Santa Barbara and avoid the duty of care.
