Way Back When: A Solar Eclipse in Santa Barbara

By Betsy J. Green

There was a solar eclipse in the afternoon of June 8 that spread across the United States, somewhat similar to the one we experienced in 2017. This was the first total eclipse of the sun in the U.S. since 1900. The path of totality spread from Washington State to Florida. Here in Santa Barbara, there was 75% obscuration.

My next Way Back When book — 1918 — will be available in local bookstores in November, and at Amazon.com. This will be the fifth book in my series of the history of Santa Barbara, one year at a time.
