Magnitude 3.4 Earthquake Strikes Off Carpinteria Coast

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake reportedly struck off the coast of Carpinteria on Wednesday evening.

The earthquake occurred a mile off the coast from Carpinteria, 8 miles from Ventura, 10 miles from Oxnard, 11 miles from Santa Barbara, and 17 miles from Port Hueneme. at 10:38 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.0 miles.

There have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby in the past ten days.

An average of 234 earthquakes with magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.0 occur per year in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.
