Lompoc Man Charged in Off-Road Collision that Killed Toddler

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that a felony complaint has been filed against Kevin Josue Alvarado-Velasquez, 24, of Lompoc.  The charges stem from a collision on August 12, 2021, on a city street in an off-highway vehicle, in which a one-year-old child was ejected and later died.

Mr. Alvarado-Velasquez is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in violation of Vehicle Code section 191.5(a), driving while under the influence of alcohol, causing injury to another in violation of Vehicle Code section 23153(a) and a violation of Penal Code section 273a(a), endangering the life of a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death.   In addition, it is also alleged that Alvarado- Velasquez personally inflicted great bodily injury on a child, in violation of Penal Code section 12022.7(d) and Penal Code section 12022.95.

Mr. Alvarado-Velasquez will appear in Department 9 of the Santa Maria Superior Court for arraignment on the above charges on August 16, 2021.
