Is Sheriff Brown Seeking Re-Election?

By an edhat reader

Will SB Sheriff Bill Brown seek re-election in June? Lt. Brian Olmstead, who works under Brown, announced he’ll be running for the Sheriff’s post this year. Brown has been in the position for over 10 years so I’m curious if he’s filed to run or if he will retire?

  1. Two reasons I wouldn’t vote for him: 1. He never makes his budget, mainly because he can’t figure out how to hire enough people and pays everyone overtime. 2. He used a map meant for fires rather than a map meant for floods to tell people in Montecito to evacuate on January 8.

  2. When you have two candidates now also running, it is reasonable to assume Brown might be retiring. One opposition candidate would not be unusual, but two makes no sense against an incumbent. I believe sheriff’s officers can retire at age 55 with plenty of lifetime benefits. Including taking new positions elsewhere and double dipping. Brown has done a good job, but I don’t blame him if he feels frustrated getting knee-capped by the whining social justice warriors and open borders sanctuary cities crowd in this jurisdiction.

  3. Met Sheriff Brown 2xs; he gave an excellent talk at my son-in-law’s law school graduation and we chatted after. Second time was a “Coffee with a Cop” here in Carpinteria, it was his birthday and day off but he was very sociable with everyone present. I got a picture with him.
