Any experienced walkers/hikers have tips for an easy hike with young kids.
One toddler and one 6 year old. Something the toddler could do for a little while would be great. Maybe Robert Bernstein could weigh in? He posts a lot of great hiking articles.

Sheffield reservoir is perfect for a toddler. It’s paved, there are lots of birds and wildlife to observe. Good first hike.
i used to take my little ones to Tuckers Grove. Nice and easy trails there. Stevens Park is nice too. Both places though and this time of the year….there is poison oak and rattlesnakes to be aware of.
Sheffield also has some short dirt foot trails 50- 100 meters long. No poison oak. No water.

Devereaux Point
Hendry’s Beach north to the tidepools at low tide
Ellwood and Lake Los Carneros are totally scalable… you can go 500 feet of continue for more adventure. San Marcos Foothills Preserve is another option. Steven’s Park trail if you can get them past the playground 🙂
Plenty of good easy hikes around here, as indicated by other posts. Wherever you take them, teach the young’uns to recognize and avoid poison oak. No shortage of that.
San Marcos Foothills Preserve has good, easy hikes with views, and occasional wildlife sightings.
Rattlesnake to the first creek crossing is a good one – we used to take our kids there all the time.
Forgot Ennisbrook. Nice flat trails, lots of varied wildlife and voyeurism of how the other half lives.
