As the 39th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival arrives and replaces “The Storm” in our collective consciousness, keep an eye out for Greetings from Summerland, a short film created by Harry Rabin of Heal the Ocean fame and Joey Szalkiewicz. Harry’s latest offering follows the effects of oil drilling on the birthplace of offshore oil, Summerland California.

From the 1900’s through today, thousands of oil wells in Summerland were drilled, abandoned and are now the topic of great debate on what to do about them.

Harry’s Greetings from Summerland is the first in a series of short films about what is ahead of us as we retire offshore drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel.

Harry Rabin is Program Director of Heal the Ocean and has made a life out of getting in the ocean and making movies about it.  Most recently Harry has been working with the State Lands Commission in managing leaking legacy wellheads in the Santa Barbara area.

The film will be playing at the Metro 4 Tuesday Feb 13 @ 8:40pm and Friday Feb 16th at 5:40pm. There will be 3 short films shown before Greetings from Summerland.
