  1. This is what happens, and will happen more and more in a SICK society who lets anything happen without retribution!
The CRIMINALS get excuse after excuse , shoplifting is being institutionalized and glorified and if you try to deter or keep the criminal to perpetrate his (sorry: “their”) crime YOU will be prosecuted while the criminal is unprosecuted and left free so that they can keep commit their crimes, undeterred, more and more often!

  2. I know of two people who were killed when they stepped in as good samaritans to break up fights. Two different occasions, deadly consequences. CHILLINGRILLIN makes a valid point, people who stand back and cell phone capture an assault are not doing nothing, it may be a way to convict the perp.

  3. From what I heard, the victim came to Shalhoob’s to serve a subpoena – a second attempt, as the first time he came to serve the subpoena earlier in the day, the owner had claimed to be someone else. The second time, the owner almost ran him over while fleeing, and a second person attacked him, stealing his hat, his phone, and his cane, as shocked bystanders were screaming.

  4. Here is an excerpt about a career criminal with a very long resume of criminal activity
“[Smith] was arrested during an armed robbery attempt at an upper State Street motel. It was his second arrest in 48 hours, after he was apprehended trying to burglarize another nearby business.” Here is a story about a person who has been in and out of some sort of lock up most of his life. The guy was arrested 48 hours before for attempted burglary and was already back on the street doing an armed robbery. A simple look at the rap sheet shows that within weeks if not days of release from prison, he re-offends but for some reason the State of CA keeps letting criminals go on their own recognizance… which is a joke

  5. Some bystanders did chase the perpetrator and a blurry photo was taken. But they lost him on Santa Barbara St. It is hard to imagine that the victim, seen in the photo, was a target for a random act of theft or violence. There were a number of people in the immediate area that were better target’s if this was simply about stealing a purse or something like that. It is very suspicious all around as I understand that the person the victim tried to serve a subpoena too was seen laughing at the victim after he was beaten with his cane!

  6. @Bubba1985 POINT BLANK…YOU ARE SO WRONG TO VICTIM BLAME! SHAME ON YOU FOR BEING SO PATHETICALLY IGNORANT. THIS HUMAN BEING HAS EVERY RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHATEVER CAREER PATH THEY CHOOSE. EVER HEARD OF THE SAYING, ” DON’T KILL THE MESSENGER?”
ON ANOTHER NOTE. I hope the victim in this case makes a full and speedy recovery.
I also want to state that I have jumped in as a bystander to stop many fights. There is just no way I could stand there while someone was not only being assaulted but losing the fight. Especially an elderly person. Never once did I worry for my safety, that doesn’t factor in when you need to act quickly in order to save someone’s life. I have no plans on changing that about myself… it’s an innate trait that I am proud to possess. I would hope someone would do the same for me, a loved one, and Yes, even you, Bubba1985.

  7. Perhaps the man should think about a new route of employment, instead of a high-risk job serving subpoenas where obviously the recipient is going to be upset. I would think hobbling around on a cane while ruining other people’s day with court papers is not the best job for you my friend!

    • On Labor Day Friday afternoon, I witnessed a punk cold cock and elderly person who was sitting outside at Joe’s. The punk ran off and I recognized him. A bunch of us gave a description to the police and the punk was caught. Saw him back on State street on Tuesday.
Anyone who spends time downtown knows this punk. Short, with kind of a limp, wears shirts without sleeves, hangs out and drinks Vodka on the west side of state between Anapamu and Carrillo, walks down the middle of state with fists clenched pulling plants out of the planters and punching signs. I gave this description to the police and they immediately knew who he was.

    • that is a local drunk (i work at state and carrillo and deal with him often) who calls himself “ninja” he’s a menace and violent. he drinks a gallon of vodka and passes out in the street, FD and PD come, scoop him up, and he’s back at it in two days. it’s ridiculous. get rid of this jerk. SBPD is aware of him, yet they can’t seem to do much. he fights people, chases them too. he hangs out with this other skinny white drunk guy named Sean. They need to bust this guy “Ninja” and remove him from SB streets. His real name is Rocky. I only know this from having to deal with him scaring our customers away

    • Just more schizophasia.
Do you ever read what you’ve written, and see whether it approximates English?
Or whether it expresses any rational thought?
Word salads like you regularly produce may indicate:
      a) Incipient schizophrenia.
      b) Thinking your smartphone can do speech recognition.

  8. Edhat is great if you think there is only one perspective.
Go against that and you will be banned.
I thought topics were to be stuck to instead of trying to bring politics into it.
I know, I know Orange man bad.
I don’t like him and won’t vote for him but dang, some people really are triggered in their heads about fear I guess, that he might win again.
Cue the triggered and get the popcorn out.

  9. so it was the owner of Shalhoob and an associate that attacked the elderly man?
“From what I heard, the victim came to Shalhoob’s to serve a subpoena – a second attempt, as the first time he came to serve the subpoena earlier in the day, the owner had claimed to be someone else. The second time, the owner almost ran him over while fleeing, and a second person attacked him, stealing his hat, his phone, and his cane, as shocked bystanders were screaming.”
***If I find out that this is true, I will never, ever give them a dime of my money again.
