On a warm October afternoon, members of Downtown Santa Barbara’s Décor Committee judged 18 businesses participating in the annual Halloween Décor Contest. Participants really stepped up their efforts this year making the committee’s job of narrowing down the top 3 a beyond difficult job.

1st Place was awarded to Wildcat Lounge (15 W. Ortega). Out-scaring the competition, Wildcat staff has created a both extensive and immersive display filling their entire space with custom-made décor. The creativeness and attention to detail really impressed the judges.

2nd Place was awarded to Whiskey Richards (435 State Street). Presenting a thrilling display including smoke, spooky clowns, and a giant Spider clinging on to the bar.

3rd Place was awarded to The Red Piano (519 State Street), for its creative and original display with lots of hands-on effort. The amount of witches, cauldrons, and wand-powered candles made this an entry where judges had to take a moment to appreciate all of the spooky details.

The top 3 contestants will receive Metro Theatre movie passes worth a total of $300.

Runners-Up: State Street Axe Club (427 State Street), Old Kings Road (532 1⁄2 State Street), The Cruisery (501 State Street).

Many businesses decorated in anticipation of Downtown Halloween Trick-or-Treat on Saturday, October 28th (3:00-6:00pm), welcoming hundreds of costumed children with treats, stickers, coupons or other goodies. Children must be in costumes, goodie bag in hand, to haunt more than 100 participating businesses (from Micheltorena to Gutierrez and along the side streets) that display a “Trick-or-Treat” sign and balloons. The Downtown Santa Barbara Halloween Decor Contest and Downtown Halloween Trick-or-Treat are sponsored by Downtown Santa Barbara and are FREE to the community and participating businesses.
