Detectives Investigating Santa Maria Shooting that Injured Two People on Sunday

On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at about 1:17 PM, officers responded to reports of a shooting at Minami Park near the intersection of Depot Street and Battles Road. Upon arrival, officers confirmed a shooting had occurred and subsequently located two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wound injuries. Santa Maria Fire and AMR Ambulance personnel responded to the scene to render medical aid.

Officers learned a large peaceful gathering was taking place at the park before the uninvited suspects arrived.  The suspects confronted guests of the gathering/event shortly before the shooting occurred. The suspects fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.

The two adult victims were transported to the Marian Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detective Bureau personnel, with assistance from the Crime Lab, responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The Violent Crimes Unit is actively investigating this incident and limited information is being released currently.
