Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded at 11:49 a.m. to a report of several spot fires along Highway 101 northbound between Refugio and El Capitan.

Crews discovered two roadside fires at less than 1/4 of an acre burning in grass alongside freeway, reports Captain Dave Zaniboni. Firefighters quickly put out the fires with two engines on scene, all additional equipment orders were canceled. The fire did not spread and was kept to the light grass.

The cause was determined to be a passing vehicle, but crews on scene were unsure about the exact cause, said Zaniboni.
