Sheriff’s detectives believe that the decedent found on Toro Canyon Road yesterday is not criminal in nature.

Coroner’s detectives are releasing the identity of the decedent as 54-year-old Shane Craig Bandy of Carpinteria. Cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a suspicious death in the area of Toro Canyon Road near Torito Road.

On Wednesday February 14, 2024, at approximately 10:56 a.m., deputies responded to the area for a report of a man down. When they arrived, deputies discovered a deceased adult male.

Detectives have temporarily closed Toro Canyon Road from Foothill Road to Torito Road while they investigate.

Sheriff’s detectives ask anyone with information about this death to contact detectives at (805)681-4150.

Shortly before 11:00 am on Wednesday (February 14), 911 received a report of a man’s body floating face-down in Toro Creek near Torito Road.

First Responders located the body and determined he was deceased.

Subsequently, CHP closed Highway 192 at Torito Road to support the Sheriff/Coroner’s investigation of a possible homicide.
