A black bear was tranquilized and released further into the hills after it was seen playing in the sprinklers of a Cuyama church on Friday.

The Santa Barbara County Fired Department (SBCFD) reported crews from Station 27 in Cuyama assisted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife with tranquilizing the juvenile bear.

“The wayward bear was seen playing in a sprinkler of a nearby church prior to settling down in a yard,” said SBCFD spokesperson Mike Eliason.

The bear was taken to nearby hills and released.
