Annual Holiday Parade Theme and Artist Request for Proposal

Heading into its 42nd year as a popular and highly anticipated community event, the Holiday Parade is a Downtown SLO winter tradition and will be held on Friday, December 1 at 7 p.m. Downtown SLO is excited to announce that the Special Events Committee has selected the 2017 Holiday Parade theme. Committee members unanimously voted in favor of “Holiday Hoedown”.

Presented by Wells Fargo and brought to you by Downtown SLO, our event is one of the largest parades on the Central Coast and attracts thousands of spectators to the heart of Downtown. The Parade features nearly 75 decorative floats, vehicles, marching bands, dancers and more!

Downtown SLO is seeking an artist or graphic artist with fine art skills to produce the artwork for the Annual Holiday poster. The poster is the most visible public element of the event, with several hundred placed in establishments around the county. The image is also used on our Holiday Happenings poster, advertising for the Holiday Parade, and signage.

Downtown SLO will be accepting design proposals through August 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. Visit www.DowntownSLO.com for more information and to apply. This is a great opportunity for our talented local artists and community members to submit their designs for our Annual Holiday posters.

The artwork is used to showcase a full lineup of activities that include Santa’s House, the Classic Carousel, and Holiday Tree (all in Mission Plaza), along with a full slate of entertainment and kids’ activities. Holiday activities begin the Friday after Thanksgiving and run through Christmas Eve.

Applications for the parade will be available on October 1, 2017 in our office and on our website, www.DowntownSLO.com.

There are two elements to the poster: art and graphics. The purpose of this RFP is to hire someone to provide the artistic (fine art) component. Staff designs the graphics element.
