Via Real Closed Beginning Monday

Construction Update **2 week update** REVISED
Timeframe:  June 10 – 23, 2018

Via Real

• Via Real will be closed between Casitas Pass Road and Hales Lane from Monday to Friday, June 11th – 15th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Frontier Communications will be working on utility relocations.
  • Please use the detour on Casitas Pass Road and Ogan Road to access the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Linden Avenue.
  • Residents will have access to Hales Lane during the closures from Vallecito Road and Via Real.

Linden Avenue Overcrossing

• Removal of the the old overcrossing continues. Please expect loud noise during demolition.
  • Southbound Highway 101 will be closed Monday and Tuesdaynights, June 11th – 12th, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am to accommodate demolition over the freeway. Northbound lanes will remain open.
  • Northbound and southbound Highway 101 will have closures as needed on Wednesday and Thursday nights, June 13th and 14th, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am to remove side supports (abutments) and center columns (bents).
• Crews will then remove temporary structures (falsework) used to build the new section of the Linden Avenue Overcrossing. 
  • Northbound Highway 101 will be closed Monday and Tuesday nights, June 18th and 19th, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am as needed. Once crews are finished on the northbound side, they will switch to the southbound side of Highway 101. Only one direction of Highway 101 will be closed at a time.
  • Southbound Highway 101 will be closed nightly as early as Tuesdaynight continuing through Thursday night, June 19th – 21st, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am as needed.
• During the nighttime freeway closures, please use the detours on the map below.

Highway 101

• Carpinteria Creek Bridges
  • Crews will excavate and mobilize equipment for work on the next stage of bridge work for northbound and southbound Highway 101.
  • Pile driving will occur for the new southbound and northbound bridges. Please expect loud noise during active pile driving.
  • Crews will install wood forms and rebar for side support (abutment) footings.
• Utility work continues in preparation for the new Nipomo Drive sound wall. 
• Concrete has been poured for the retaining wall on southbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Casitas Pass Road. Crews will strip wood forms and then backfill dirt in preparation for the upcoming sound wall work.
• Electrical work throughout the project will be ongoing for new street lights and traffic signals.

Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing

• Utility relocations will be ongoing over the next few weeks. Please expect subcontractors for Southern California Edison and Frontier to be in the area. Utility work will have flagmen as needed.

Via Real

• The segment of Via Real between Casitas Pass Road and Hales Lane has reopened early with one northbound lane.  Please note that Via Real will only have 1 northbound lane open between Casitas Pass Road and Vallecito Road for the next few months. See map below.
  • Crews will be working on a retaining wall on Via Real between Hales Lane and Casitas Pass Road. 

Upcoming Work: spring/summer

• The old Casitas Pass Overcrossing will be removed following utility relocations likely in July.
• The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will close for up to 1 month. Detour maps can be viewed at SBROADS.com.
• Carpinteria Valley Water District will install a new water line on Linden Avenue.
