[Sunday] morning Montecito Firefighters along with Search & Rescue, AMR ambulance, and Santa Barbara County firefighters assisted an injured hiker at Tangerine falls. Ultimately the decision was made to hoist the hiker out due to his leg injury. In the end, the sounds of nature are all that is left of the mayhem.

Thanks to all the work of the Montecito Trails Foundation, there are endless opportunities to be out in the front country. Remember to use solid “trail sense”. Know where you are going and leave that information with someone. Also, know where you are at so you can get help to you quickly.

The second call came in just after 11pm for lost hikers coming down from Tangerine Falls, the hikers had lost their way and had become disoriented. SBCSAR Teams hiked up and had the hikers out within an hour. All teams were back at the station just after midnight.

The second call came in at 11:00pm? Moonlight hikes are not advised in terrain that should be reserved for experienced hikers under ideal circumstances!

not sure how to get the word out that the hike up to Tangerine Falls is not safe for those with no rock climbing experience. This is not a simple trail to a waterfall. There is no obvious route and it is necessary to clamber up loose boulders in steep terrain. There are many areas along the way that are precarious and it is not recommended for beginner or intermediate hikers.

Name needs to be changed from Tangerine to Naranja Muerte. In this way, it might stay sacred and keep the cell phone surfers from trying to catch this wave.

The Montecito Trails Foundation has always done a good job of keeping our trails cleared. To join (support them) is only about $25 a year and they give a comprehensive trail map of the front country.
