The City of Santa Barbara received approximately $844,000 in transient occupancy tax (TOT) for the month of December 2017, which is 26.8% below December 2016 collections. TOT collected from hotels decreased 22.9% and short-term rentals decreased 80% from the prior December. This month’s decline in hotel receipts can largely be attributed to the effects of the Thomas Fire and corresponding air quality conditions throughout the month.

December marks the sixth month in the City’s fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.  The City’s adopted TOT budget is $19,262,400.
