Three Rest Areas to Re-Open on Thursday
Source: Caltrans
The three Safety Roadside Rest Areas along the Central Coast are scheduled to re-open to the public on Thursday, June 11 by 9 am following a nearly three-month-long closure.
- Highway 46 East in Shandon in San Luis Obispo County.
- US 101 near Camp Roberts in southern Monterey County.
- US 101 in Gaviota, Santa Barbara County.
Rest areas are an important part of Caltrans’ efforts to ensure traveler safety, providing clean, safe and comfortable places for them to rest and manage their needs. They encourage travelers to use a safe location off the roadway to take a break and return more alert to the highway as they travel throughout California.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
For traffic updates on state highways in Central Coast counties, travelers may contact Caltrans District 5 Public Affairs at 805-549-3318 or can visit the District 5 website at: https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-5

Jun 10, 2020 12:05 PMHoping the same geniuses at the State start to open the local DMV's. Only way to access them is through their website, which wasn't working last week.

Jun 10, 2020 02:27 PMSAN FRANCISCO -- After months of being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the California Department of Motor Vehicles will open all 169 of its field offices on Thursday, June 11, officials announced.
DMV officials say they still encourage people to use the department's online services and other non-contact methods to process transactions, especially those who wish to renew their license or registration.
But not all services will return at the DMV offices once they open, like behind-the-wheel driving tests.

Jun 10, 2020 08:45 AMApparently to the geniuses in state government, people do not need to urinate or defecate during a pandemic... I wonder where these genius think the people go? But I do have to wonder: what are their reasoning for the 180 other days a year these are closed?

Jun 09, 2020 10:45 PMIt’s about time! No explanation or excuse for these closures at all. We had to take several trips to NorCal to help ill family (not Covid19) and it was very difficult to find open restrooms. The cal trans district north of San Jose did keep the rest stop on I280 open.

Jun 09, 2020 06:14 PMThat’s good news. When I went up to Northern California in early May, basically all rest stops were closed, and bathrooms in food places were closed. The only place to go was gas station restrooms. I thought I was going to have a non-vehicular accident.
