At 9:30 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the scene just west of the summit. They found a pickup truck and a small SUV had left the roadway and were approximately 30 feet over the side.
The truck was traveling eastbound on SR-154 when due to a mechanical issue, it crossed the westbound lanes and struck the SUV, said County Fire Department’s Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.
The driver of the pickup truck is a male in his 40’s, he suffered minor injuries. There were two occupants in the SUV, a male and female both in their 60’s. The male driver suffered moderate injuries while the female passenger suffered major injuries. It took firefighters approximately 20 minutes using the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the vehicle, said Eliason.
All three patients were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage hospital via ground ambulance.
California Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
