“The Sandman” Tops Streaming Services This Week

By TV Jane

“The Sandman” is the most popular streaming show this week followed by the Predator prequel, “Prey,” according to Reelgood’s Top 10 Titles for the week of August 10-17.

The Netflix fantasy drama series, “The Sandman,” is based on the 1989–1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and follows a celestial dream-controling being who was held captive for 106 years and recently escaped.

Hulu’s “Prey” is the fifth film in the Predator franchise and is set in America’s Northern Great Plains in 1719. Criticism has been fairly good for the film considering it’s a franchise thriller movie but reviewers are pleasantly surprised with the character development and pacing.

AMC’s “Better Call Saul” comes in at number three with the long awaited series finale making its debut. I won’t spoil anything but let me signal my critique with an approving slow clap. Next up is Amazon Prime’s new spin on Penny Marshall’s classic 1992 film, “A League of Their Own.” The show is different that a beloved film, but the series as a whole is able to stand on its own feet as it emphasizes the real-life racism and LGBTQ experiences the original film glossed over.

What I’m Watching

“Paper Girls” on Amazon Prime is a mystery/science fiction drama show based on a comic book series. It follows four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls in 1988 who suddently become caught up in the conflict between two warring factions of time travelers. The acting is well done and the writing does a good job of handling a complex narrative. Plus, comedian Ali Wong debuts her serious acting chops.
