The Moon Has A Rugged Landscape

By Ronald Williams

In this photo of the 5-day-old moon made on March 18, the low angle of sunlight along the lunar terminator results in long shadows from crater rims and mountains so as to reveal the rugged nature of the landscape (look for a tall steeple-like mountain).

This year, because it is the first full Moon that occurred after the spring equinox on March 20, March’s full Moon is the Paschal Full Moon. It is also called the Worm Moon (ugh!) referring to the soil warming and earthworms appearing for early birds to munch on. Spring is here!
