Swallowtail Colors

I saw these flowers hiking up Rattlesnake Trail and stopped to take a few photos on the way back. By this time there were lots of Swallowtails on the flowers and, when I got closer, I noticed these patches of intense colors at the base of the wings on the larger butterflies. The colors were on the undersides of the wings also.
