Suspect Suffers Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Tonight at about 5:43 PM, SMPD officers responded to a shooting incident at the apartment complex at 502 W. Morrison. Officers located a 17 year old Hispanic male on scene with a gunshot wound to his arm. According to information received on scene, the juvenile discharged the gun during a fight and struck himself in the arm. 

The other subjects involved in the fight fled the scene and have not been located or identified. The juvenile suspect with the gunshot wound has gang affiliations and detectives are investigating to determine if the fight that preceded the shooting was incited by gang activity. 

The gun was located by officers nearby and the juvenile suspect was treated by officers and paramedics on scene before being transported to Marian Hospital. Due to his age, the suspect’s identity will not be made public.
