A major injury hit and run traffic collision occurred on Butterfly Lane, just north of Channel Drive this afternoon at approximately 4:04 pm. The Ventura Police Department (VPD) had been in pursuit of the involved Chevrolet Impala for reckless driving on US-101. The Chevrolet exited the freeway and VPD gave chase. VPD pursued the Chevrolet westbound on Channel Drive east of Butterfly Lane. The driver turned right onto Butterfly Lane and collided into a pedestrian, Ms. Jennifer Jan Jensen, who was walking with her two friends along the west roadway edge. After the collision, the Chevrolet was driven into a large wall on the opposite side of the roadway.
VPD detained the 2 passengers who were inside the Chevrolet and called for emergency assistance from local law enforcement and medical personnel. The Santa Barbara Area California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara County Sheriff Office (SBSO), and Santa Barbara Police Department (SBPD), responded and set up a perimeter. The SBSO K-9 Unit and helicopter immediately responded and searched for the outstanding driver. The Ventura Police Department requested the Santa Barbara Area CHP take over investigative responsibility. The incident in currently under investigation.
Suspects: Hickerson and Sanders were booked at Santa Barbara County Jail for 182 PC, 11359(b) H&S.

The collision took place on Butterfly Lane, just north of Channel Drive around 4:04 p.m. Tuesday. According to a recent California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, the Ventura Police Department had been in pursuit of a white Chevy Impala for reckless driving on Highway 101.
The Chevy exited the freeway in Montecito and Ventura Police gave chase. They pursued the Chevy westbound on Channel Drive east of Butterfly Lane. The driver turned right onto Butterfly Lane and collided into a pedestrian. Ms. Jennifer Jan Jenson, 58-years-old from North Carolina, was walking with two friends along west roadway edge when she was struck by the vehicle.
After the collision, the Chevy was then driven into a large wall on the opposite side of the roadway, reports CHP.
Ventura Police detained the two passengers inside the Chevy and called for emergency assistance from local law enforcement and medical personnel. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before the Santa Barbara area CHP, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Office, and Santa Barbara Police Department responded and set up a perimeter. The Sheriff K-9 Unit and helicopter immediately responded and searched for the outstanding driver.
Just after 5:00 p.m., an emergency notification was released stating the Sheriff’s Office needed assistance to locate a suspect who was last seen near the Montecito Music Academy of the West at 1070 Fairway Road. Deputies were in the area looking for a black male adult, 5’9″ at approximately 30 years old, with short black hair, possibly wearing a white shirt with blue and white striped shorts and no socks.
Roger the Scanner Guy heard over the police scanner that a gun was found in the initial vehicle and the suspect may be armed. The Sheriff’s Office urged residents to contact 911 and not to approach the suspect.
Before 6:30 p.m., scanner traffic stated a person matching the suspect’s description was being held at gunpoint in the area of southbound U.S. Highway 101 and Bailard Avenue in Carpinteria.
CHP stated the person of interest has been detained and they continue to investigate the incident. Ms. Jenson sustained major injuries but is expected to survive.
Felony hit and run suspect is on the run and might be armed with a gun in the area of Channel Drive and Butterfly Lane.

Sorry to assume. But you talk like you live here. And no. Crime isn’t up. There have been a few isolated incidents that have nothing to do with the mudslide
Something went awry here. Ventura PD had a pursuit that extended into SB County but didn’t advise SB Dispatch or CHP until the collision happened. Critical delay, failure of protocol.
If the dogs catch his sorry ass, put him on a chain gang for as long as it takes for the woman he hurt to recover fully.
One of the friends of the victim told a local shopkeeper that these two guys as they were detained by police were laughing about while her friend was sprawled on the ground bleeding. She was so traumatized that she was vomiting on the side of the road and these guys are having a laugh. Absolutely, no compunction whatsoever at what had happened by the suspects.
