Structure Fire on the Mesa

Saturday morning at approximately 09:55 hours, the Santa Barbara Police Department Combined Communications Center received 911 emergency calls for smoke inside a structure in the 2500 Block of Murrell Road. Santa Barbara City Fire Department dispatched a first alarm structure response assignment, three fire engines, one Truck Company and a Battalion Chief responded to the scene.
 
The first arriving engine company found a residential structure with smoke showing upon arrival. A “working fire” was declared and additional firefighters were called to the scene.  Firefighters forced entry to the structure and made an aggressive interior attack.  The property was searched and no victims were located. The Truck Company coordinated with the interior fire attack crews and provided ventilation by cutting a hole over the fire. This allowed heat and smoke to escape the confined space and assisted with the fire suppression. The fire was under control within 10 minutes,
 
No injuries were reported and no residents were home at the time of the incident. Three pets were outstanding at the time, two cats and one small dog. All animals have been accounted for.
 
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature by the Fire Investigator and the damage estimate is approximately $80,000.
 
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department would like to remind everyone that smoke detectors save lives, and should be located in every room and common space in your residence.
