Thank you John Palminteri for showing up for the occasion! And for being a host of the Virtual Solstice Parade video which was shown on June 26 at the Arlington Theater. Many weeks in the making. The La Boheme section is bigger than anything that could happen in the regular parade. As JUSTSO said, you can watch it here:

Santa Barbara Summer Solstice is usually celebrated on the Saturday AFTER the Summer Solstice. This gives an extra few days for artists to make their creations.

Yes, a small number of celebrants is how Solstice began. Next year it will be back big, indeed.

Maybe you had to have been there! We were more than fifty people, La Boheme in the lead. We had just watched the Virtual Summer Solstice Parade film at the Arlington. Here is the link for those who missed the movie and have interest. https://youtu.be/XB36Tugc72s
The Solstice workshop opens in early May and involves many hours of planning and effort to put together this event. The permitting process and other bureaucratic maneuvers begin sooner. The news of opening up restrictions came too late for all that would be involved to put on the parade this year. We hope for a big parade again next year.

Come on people. Did anyone get hurt? No. So why complain that a few people had a good time? Who cares, they kept the spirit alive. Not my thing, but good for them and the city.

GETOFFMYLAWN - who cares if they smoked weed? Better than a bunch of wasted drunks staggering about picking fights and knocking over children.

We were keeping the spirit of Summer Solstice alive. Next year, the plan is for the parade to return. It was a joyful renegade romp down State Street. Thank you, John Palminteri, for sharing some pictures.

But just a few people partying up State Street is just how the original Solstice Parade started. This keeps with the spirit. Thanks JP.

Sorry, call me bitter or whatever, but 4 pics & possibly a couple dozen people hardly constitutes a spirit? Next year, that's what we were told LAST year... This is like "Watching fireworks on TV" for the 4 of July, not even close. I'm glad YOU had a "Joyful renegade romp...", but the rest of Santa Barbara just got worked over again. I forecast that "Next year", there will come some "Valid" excuse to have the same "Joyful renegade romp" instead of an actual CELEBRATION.

yeah i'm pretty annoyed that they took this from us again, but sure...let's let Fiesta happen and bring in truckloads of LA and OC people, let's get drunk and start fights, waste tons of money on tacos and churros and over priced beers....which we can get any day of the week here in town. Yes I know Solstice draws in more people for it than fiesta, and that's a solid fact, but the crowd is more gentle and happy and way less drunk and stupid.

Solstice was on the 20th, but that doesn't have a lot to do with when the parade happens.

plus this wasn't a parade or celebration. Solstice was on the 21st, not the 26th, and a few handfuls of people isn't a parade....it's a dog and pony show.
