The Haskell’s Beach House has been demolished as part of a replacement project by the Bacara.
The Ritz Carlton Bacara Beach House Replacement and Demolition Project will include a new replacement building with exterior showers, drinking fountains and a staging area for food trucks.
The former 1,500 square foot structure was built over 20 years ago with the construction of the luxury resort. It fell into disrepair and was hammered by high tides and winter storms.
The new facilities will be located 180 feet northeast of the former structure and out of the sea level rise zone. Construction of one new 325 square foot single-story building will include four restrooms, a storage room, two exterior showers and drinking fountains.

We should all be concerned about the “Barcara” creep
I know this for a fact, the management and owner do not appreciate the public access option at all.
Coastal Commission and county- KEEP AN EYE ON THIS!
Thank you!
Yay. An unwelcome eyesore for 20 years. Now that the “temporary” seawall is finally gone, mother nature can bring back the lagoon that should be there. Thanks for including the history link 😉
Local since 60.’ Fully support the Bacara Ritz Carlton in their efforts to improve our local beach. No doubt spending hundreds of thousands in the process. World class destination, great venue, have enjoyed their fine dining and spa on many occasions. All a win, insofar they observe the condition of approval.
Lastly, the hundreds of thousands they pay in transitory occupancy taxes annually is a big plus for our community.
SB- Compleatly disagree. (Aside from tax revenue, which I could care less about.) Unless you discovered Haskel’s beach when the Bacarra was built, you should know it is NOT better or “improved”, That’s just crazy…
World-class destination? I too have stayed, eaten, and used the spa there and it’s far from a high-end property. The location is great and the price obnoxious, but that doesn’t make it 5-star.
